Agricultural Education Career

If you don't recall, I am an agricultural education major, with Ag Ed there are many things I could share about this career. Today let us talk about teaching in the classroom. There are many changes coming to our classrooms and there will be many more by the time I graduate.

In Agriculture, we work to meet the demands and needs of students inside and outside of the traditional farm setting. As urban interest increases we work to bring more hands-on learning to students. This graphic was created to talk about some changes for the classroom and education system. It focuses on the idea of educators being the change in people's lives.

Sample Email

In professional writing communication happens in many ways, one way is email. Below is a sample email on to a professor. Keeping in mind familiarity and seniority of the professor, here is an example. From: <Amanda Stafford> To: <Lee French> Subject: AGRO 132: Absence 9/21 Good morning Professor French, My name is Amanda Stafford. I am currently in your Thursday 3pm Crop Production Lab. I am emailing you because I will unfortunately be out of class Thursday, September 21st for the SMSU Ag Advisory Meeting. Is it acceptable to miss lab for this? Additionally, would attending your Tuesday morning lab be welcomed to make up Thursday's lab? Sorry for the inconvenience and I appreciate your guidance, thank you! Sincerely, Amanda Stafford

The Power of Letters

As our Writing in Professions class learns more about formal letter writing, I recall experiences in the past where I have taken time to write business letters. In high school, my College Preparation Composition class learned about complaints, inquiry, and compliment letters. As an added twist, we could mail our letters for extra credit. Of course I sent mine, since I wrote honest letters that included how I felt. After sealing and mailing these letters, it was a short 3-weeks and I had gotten a response from the companies. I wrote a complaint letter to the manufacturer of my screen protector on my Ipad. It wasn't a terrible protector, but there was clearly a defect in the one I had gotten. The company responded with sending me a new protector and reimbursing my original purchase. I still use their screen protectors to this day because the quality of their customer service and know they truly stand behind their products. Final Paper- Methods Proposal

Making the classroom interactive, inclusive, and innovative are important to my philosophy. For my final paper I have the opportunity to dig deeper into a topic that relates to what I want to do in the future. There are many agricultural topics that could be covered, but instead I have chosen to write about Special Education in the Agricultural Education classroom. The proposal will discuss current teaching methods, curriculum and current Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources standards, and reflect on SPED methods and how they could be applied into the classroom. This proposal expands beyond my philosophy and dives into how I am going to make this possible. I plan on using the SMSU database, MN databases, Education course materials, and personal experiences to write this proposal. I also will seek guidance from teachers and mentors of mine.
